How to specify cabinetry for 100 identical residential units
Repetition at scale is a specification discipline, not a manufacturing trick. Type the units, freeze one spec per unit-type against a measured show-unit, gate it on an approved prototype, and every unit becomes reproducible.

Type the units before you specify anything
A hundred "identical" units are rarely one thing. Group them by unit-type — the same layout, the same cabinet runs, the same zones — and confirm handing (mirror-image plans need their own drawings, not a note). Each unit-type gets exactly one specification; the count of unit-types, not the count of doors, is what you are actually about to freeze. Get this typing wrong and you will discover it during installation, which is the most expensive place to discover anything.

Write the spec sheet by moisture zone
For each unit-type, specify the cabinetry zone by zone, because in Sarawak's heat and humidity material failure starts at the wrong zone — the sink base, bathroom, laundry or a poorly ventilated run. Assign the material family to the zone, not to the room: standardized P6 particleboard for dry runs, plywood where you step up to semi-wet, ACP (the glass-finished front is marketed as AquaGlass) for wet zones, honeycomb or full aluminium for the largest or wettest work. "Moisture-resistant" is never "waterproof", so any wet zone steps up to a non-wood carcase. State the emission grade (E1/E0/ENF) separately — that is a health/formaldehyde decision, not a moisture one.

Measure a real show-unit — do not trust the plan
Drawings tell you the intent; the built shell tells you the truth. Before you finalize dimensions, have a completed show-unit measured on site — wall lengths, service positions, floor and ceiling variation, window and door reveals — and reconcile the spec to those figures. Site variation between units is real, so decide in writing how the design absorbs it: scribe fillers, adjustable plinths, and a defined tolerance at the wall junctions rather than a rigid box that only fits one shell. This is what makes a single frozen spec survive a hundred slightly different openings.
Gate production on an approved prototype
Build one unit-type in full as a prototype, install it in a real unit, and inspect it against the spec sheet before anything goes to bulk. This is the gate: finish and colour confirmed against the sample, hardware operation checked, fit and tolerances verified at the wall, snag list closed. Nothing enters bulk production until the prototype is signed off in writing — the prototype, not the drawing, becomes the reference against which every later batch is judged. Freeze the specification — then repetition is free
Repetition only works from a frozen spec. Once the prototype is approved, lock the specification: material by zone, finishes and batch rule, hardware schedule, and every dimension. From that point a change is a formal change — logged, re-costed, and re-approved through an RFI — never a quiet substitution on the factory floor. Hold every batch to the same reference
Bulk production runs in batches, and drift enters between them — a new dye-lot, a substituted hinge, a finish that reads slightly off. Agree the acceptance criteria in writing up front: colour matched to the approved sample within a controlled colour-difference (name ΔE as the metric you will judge by; confirm the acceptance band with your supplier rather than assuming one), hardware exactly as scheduled, dimensions as frozen. Check each batch against the approved prototype, keep a retained sample, and run a snag and QC pass at delivery and again at installation so problems are caught per batch, not at handover of unit one hundred.
