Constant water, steam and standing water swell wood-based cores over time, especially at exposed edges. No finish makes a wood board a wet-zone board.持续的水汽、蒸汽与积水会随时间使木质芯材膨胀，尤其是在裸露的边缘。任何表面处理都无法把木质板材变成湿区板材。
